BlackBerry Pearl
The BlackBerry Pearl is one of the newest advances in Smart Phone technology. Combining the PDA applications, cellular communications, email, digital camera, and audio capabilities, it is the latest advancement for the businessmen. While many of the newest electronic devices attempt to combine extensive features for units that exceed multi-tasking, Blackberry Pearl has sought to streamline, adding few features to their existing design and making the model sleeker than before.
BlackBerry Pearl does not offer video technology. This model can’t be used to watch extended media, though it can take high quality pictures and send and receive email on the go. The purpose and major customer base is the business professional. Bearing that in mind, BlackBerry Pearl was design more as a personal digital assistant with phone capabilities, rather than a device with so many functions it would be muddled, confusing, or used as a toy.
The danger in video application is that users are more likely to watch videos or play around with their phone during spare minutes. The video application uses more memory and more power; leaving a high probability that the batteries will not sustain for the hours a consumer needs use of the phone capabilities. BlackBerry has sought to put business application ahead of play, believing, and rightly from their current sales, that their customers are more likely to purchase the product that will help balance and organize their professional lives.
The new BlackBerry offers all of the features that previous models provided, such as email capacity and voice calling. The face of the new model has a larger screen, for the size of the phone, while the shape and weight has gone smaller. The resolution to the picture is outstanding as well. While the Pearl has added a digital camera feature and music playing capabilities, it has refrained from other applications that are becoming popular among other phones today. There are, for instance, no GPS tracking or entertainment video features in the new Pearl model.
The precision in which the company chooses which applications to improve adds to the overall success of the product as a whole. Choosing not to venture into gaming has left the memory and battery life of the model healthier, for longer use and faster email service than a multi tasking smart phone might be able to utilize if the applications were over stressed.
Many in the technology world wondered if the famous BlackBerry name might be slowly fading out of the prime market; their applications centering solely on business while other makers cater to the entertainment tastes of the younger executives flooding the market.
The addition of music to the device and the sleeker features has attracted a whole new set of clientele. The Pearl feature acts as a mouse for texting and returning emails and the keyboard is still a much loved quality which makes the process of working away from the office or home much easier than some of the smart phone applications can accomplish. The model itself is smaller as are the keys, though the screen is large for the device’s size.
The question for consumers as well as the various manufacturers of smart phones and PDA’s is, “What do we do with all of these applications?” The market keeps expanding to include more entertainment and less necessary application. The choices are endless, but do you really need a phone that plays you two whole movies before the battery diminishes?
